Virtual ride from the west coast of Canada to the east – Vancouver to St. Johns, a distance of 4,825 miles. This is the full challenge, although there are selected destinations along the way depending on people’s personal goals. The cost of the challenge is £15, which will be donated to the Severn View Open Doors project in Chepstow, who care for local Dementia sufferers. Recorded cycle rides, runs and walks will be counted but they must be backed-up with a GPS app, eg Strava. Only outdoor rides, runs and walks will be counted – no turbo trainer or treadmill exercise sessions.

Midweek update, more activities today and a catch-up for Gareth Davies. Christine Smith keeps the pressure on the lead with a 20 mile ride that sees her top 600 miles. Also rides from Tony and Carolyn Griffiths, and Rob Stallard has piled on more points for the Yellow team, the defending champions who are languishing in 4th place at the moment. There were also runs added for Diane Potter and Tracey Eastabrook.
Start of another week, and goals being met. Leader Brian Stephens has now started Stage 5 of the Challenge having reached the city of Brooks, Alberta, and also clocking over 700 miles; Steve Chappelle has now passed 500 miles; Chris Potter has knocked-up over 300 miles; and Ian Russell flies past the 100 mile barrier. Also out were Christine Smith, Diane Potter, Sue Earnshaw, Rob Stallard and Helen Gilmore.
Despite bitterly cold winds and rain, a number of activities saw six ‘athletes’ improve their stats. Christine Smith has now completed Stage 2 by reaching Banff, Alberta; Steve Chappelle and Diane Potter moved on, and Chris Potter has now passed the 300 mile mark. Despite the freezing weather, the intrepid cross-Canadians keep putting in their cycle rides and runs. Brian Stephens still tops the charts with a cycle ride and run to add to his total; second placed Christine Smith has now topped 500 miles. Midweek catch-up has seen 13 entrants out pounding the roads or the pedals.
