THE FINISHERS
Quiet weekend, bad weather washed out Saturday and it was just two 66ers who managed to get some miles in on the Sunday. Top marks to David Vass with 35 mile ride to Cardiff and Tony Griffiths with a 13 mile MTB ride.
Friday is here again, always a good day to end the working week with a bike ride. Three 66ers out today, welcome back to the saddle for Steve Tobin who is now within touching distance of the finish line having passed 2,200 miles. Also out were Janet Vale and Tony Griffiths who has just reached the Arizona State Line.
Well that’s the end of eight months on the Route 66 Challenge, another four to go. Already one finisher, Christine Smith with Sue Earnshaw, Steve Tobin and Helen Gilmore nearing the end. Robert Stallard, Tony Griffiths, Helena Hunt and Gareth Davies are still on track. Lots of work for the others though.
A short 8 mile ride tonight by Tony and Carolyn Griffiths, saw Tony reach Gallup, New Mexico and closing in on the Arizona border.
All caught up now after the Bank Holiday weekend. Rob Stallard put in a 24 mile ride to Redwick which has seen him pass the 50,000 feet climbing target; while Diane Potter added another 30 miles to her target, reaching the Texas State Line and passing 1,000 miles ridden. Well done guys.
Busy weekend and it isn’t over yet. CMCCC Bike Ride included 5 Routers; Sue Earnshaw who is just 9 miles from finishing the challenge, having passed through Los Angeles; Tony Griffiths who passed 1,500 miles; David Whittle reaching the 1,200 mile barrier and passing through Tucumcar, New Mexico; Janet Vale who topped 1,000 miles and reached McLean, Texas; and Grahame Morton passing 500 miles. Also out were Helen Gilmore reaching Las Vegas, Nevada and shooting through the 2,000 mile mark; Francesca Cooper passing 800 miles; and David Vass adding another 35 miles to his tally. Congrats all.
Following a wet few days, its only Sue Earnshaw who has taken to the roads and improved her Route 66 position. Improved it so much, she is only 45 miles from the finish in Santa Monica, just entering the outskirts of Los Angeles. I am sure it will be done this weekend, maybe a celebration on the Roman Holiday ride on Sunday? Sue has also passed the 2,200 miles mark. Well done.
The latest CMCCC ride was to the Old Barn pub in Llanmartin. Four 66ers were out, Sue Earnshaw, Tony Griffiths, Janet Vale and Sharon Ward. There is also a catch-up on the stats from Helena Hunt following her epic French Solo Ride. A quiet week so far, just two riders out; Diane Potter with a 30 miler around Magor which sees her reach Clinton, Oklahoma and Shane Carey with his 35 mile ride to Goldcliff which puts him through Oklahoma City.
