Well it’s been a bit of a quiet week on the Route 66 front, lots of rain has kept people indoors but a few have managed to get out over the last couple of days. Big ride of 60 miles from Diane Potter has seen her past 20,000 climbing and reaching Rolla, Missouri, whilst also out was Sue Earnshaw with an 18 mile trip that sees her crossing the Arizona State Line. Well done girls.
We are also expecting back Christine Smith in the next couple of days, from her safari rides in Tanzania, which is likely to get her home to San Bernardino and the end of the line.
Just a couple of rides from Rob Stallard to report, nice bit of climbing up Wentwood and Shirenewton to improve his altitude stats. Rob has also the passed 1,500 mile mark.
Five Route 66 riders braved the rain today, with Gareth Davies getting in a 53 mile ride to Usk whilst CMCCC Club Ride took the others to Brockweir alongside the River Wye. This band or merry men and women included Carolyn Griffiths, Francesca Cooper, Tracey Eastabrook and Tony Griffiths, and this ride saw Francesca reach Miami, Oklahoma, whilst Carolyn rode past the 500 mile mark.
Catch up for yesterday, some tough rides out yesterday saw Diane Potter take on Wentwood and Robert Stallard take to the hills as well to Shirenewton. Also out was Christine Smith, just before her trip to Tanzania where she is likely to complete her mileage for Route 66.
Another CMCCC Ride this evening saw five riders out improving their mileage. On a seperate ride, Christine Smith moved ever closer to the end goal and also reached Baker, California.
More miles put in today by four 66ers – biggest ride goes to Christine Smith with a trip over the bridge to Thornbury with a 33 miler. Next up was David Whittle with a visit to the seaside at Porthcawl. Steve Tobin, who is chasing Christine down to the finish line in San Bernardino has now reached the California State Line, and Tony Griffiths, with today’s 15 mile ride has seen him pass through McLean, Texas.

Well what a day, the Dragon ride created some astonishing figures. The record mileage was broken with Steve Tobin putting in 142 miles and nearly 11,000 feet of climbing, although this was dwarfed by the effort by close friend Nathan Finney whose 192 miles and 16,000 of climbing is legendary, although Nathan is not taking part in this challenge. Great efforts from Sue Earnshaw as well with a 62 mile ride on the Dragon which took her past 1,500 miles. For Steve’s efforts, he has now reached Las Vegas and passed the 2,000 mile barrier and closing in on the Pacific. Also out today with more modest rides were Janet Vale who has reached Rolla, Missouri, Sharon and Tony Ward.
Some big goals hit today, a 43 mile ride from Christine Smith saw her pass the 2,000 barrier ans make it into the last state on the challenge, California. Tony Griffiths passed the 1,000 mile post with a 34 mile ride and reached the Texas State Line. Also out today were Sharon Ward who reached Miami, Oklahoma, Tony Ward who passed the 500 mile target and the 20,000 feet climbing goal, and Janet Vale who also reached 20,000 feet.
